For anyone who knew Shiraishi Mai or had heard of her, she was a woman, who excelled at pretty much anything she did. Strong work ethic, great leader, charismatic, talented, eloquent, composed... and only to name a few as the list goes on. However, how did such a woman like her become what she is today?

Mai was born to a former top model, Fujiwara Shizuka, and a world-renowned photographer, Shiraishi Hiroyuki. Shiraishi per se wasn't that big of a name, except for her father's own work since he had a humble upbringing. It was her mother's name the one that opened all kind of doors into the high society and the fashion world for her in spite of her mother being disowned by her grandmother once she voiced out her desire to join the fashion business and later marry a nobody photographer.
Poised, elegant, charming yet witty and confident, Mai soon earned that spot into the high society and circles of elite by herself. A natural charisma; everywhere she'd go, nobody could ever take their eyes off of her the very first moment she stepped into the room.

If only if everything was as easy as that.

Mai had always had quite a turbulent relationship with her mother. She grew up believing her mother hated and no matter what she did, her mother would still despise her; nothing she did was ever enough for her mother. If Mai still has troubles expressing her emotions, her mother is the only reason why she became so defensive for the woman would always twist her words around and throw them back at her. Up until now, the reason why her mother despised her in such way is still unknown to Mai. Jealousy? Perhaps so since her grandmother always had a soft spot for Mai unlike the daughter that disappointed her so much when she became a model. Refusal to become her puppet? Likely. However, her father was always such a blessing to Mai, a kind hearted and humble man that raised her to be the woman she is today. Sure, not everything was perfect yet Mai has always been deeply grateful for having a loving father.

Albeit Mai and her mother having this rocky relationship, funny enough, she developed an interest for fashion and writing at a young age. And so, during her teen years, she spent those writing about the latest fashion trends, about her favourite designers and posting her coordinates online. Years that she spent attending high school in England. As the rest of high society girls of her age, high school was a period filled with new experiences. Parties here and there, young Mai enjoyed the luxurious style of life; and to manipulate people, getting from them whatever they wanted was her guilty pleasure; something she enjoyed. Everything she desired, she had it with just one look.

After graduating high school, she spent her days balancing international communications studies at Waseda, her blog and her scandalous private life since a bit of that eccentric life remained until she was 22, when she decided to leave her past behind and focus on what she had in front of her, a brilliant future as with hard work and perseverance. She became a well known blogger, not only in Japan but in other countries as well. And her hobby became her dream job. Getting hired so young to be managing editor of Vogue Japan, at the early age of 23, after a while of working there as an intern, she quickly went up the success ladder and reached the top, due to her natural talent and attitude at work.

As of December 2016, she resigned from her managing editor job at Vogue Japan to focus on her writing career, reason why she moved to a small town in Italy for 8 months before moving back to Tokyo.

The other side of the mirror

Opulence, manipulation, blackmailing, toxicity, twisted games.... murder.

Beneath the charming and graceful Shiraishi Mai, a darker version of herself lies there. Deep within her. Young Mai started to become aware of the true darkest shades of her soul as soon as she quickly found it pleasant and enjoyable to simply influence others to do whatever her rotten heart desired to satisfy her constant state of indifference. The friends she had in high school? Mere puppets in her own game. Except for a rare few individuals whom she actually bonded with. In particular, two other girls, with also lack of actual parenting from either or both parents. The three of them often sneaked out the boarding school premises to where one of them found a small cottage house deep hidden in the woods and spent time there. They all had problems, felt like they didn't belong anywhere and that simple fact strengthened their bond. There, they were able to be their natural selves, no worries, no toxic games, nor anything. Those moments in the woods, Mai considered them to be happy ones until the fateful day... when one of them suggested the following ' let's die together while we are still happy. '
Mai firstly agreed to the idea. Reason? Pure amusement. Sophia wanted to commit suicide anyway, why not watch her actually doing it, if she had the guts to do so? What happened after is still a blur in Mai's mind. One rope, the one Sophia brought, and one dead body, Sophia's, which never was found for their other friend helped Mai bury her under her favorite oak tree and ever since no evidences were found to what happened to her, the case was closed.

After those happenings, Mai never went back to be the same but only worsened during the following years. Underground parties, more twisted games, illegal substances, even engaged herself in the call girl services with wealthy older men; did she need the money? Of course not but she would try anything in order to feel alive and something again.
Even if those toxic activities stopped once she graduated college, few times she'd still go back to some of her old habits.

// This part of her backstory won't be known to other muses unless it's plotted or Mai herself tells your muse. //
